My DSLR blog and picture page.

Indeed DSLRs are quite pricy as compared to the normal compact cameras. However, if you are just a beginner on the field of photography, you can opt for an entry-level DSLR camera. There are plenty of them, which are available for you. As compared to those high-end DSLRs, which professional photographers usually buy, entry-level DSLRs are affordable. Moreover, they are easier to use for beginners.
Canon Rebel XS
The Canon Rebel XS is probably the most common entry level DSLR camera simply because it's a good little camera that's user friendly and it's also affordable. The Rebel XS has some great features and produces excellent
quality images, although ISO range sometimes leaves you wanting and needing more, however this is only a small
problem and for every day shooting this isn't much of a problem.
Canon Rebel T1i
This is the bigger sister to the Rebel XS and generally it costs around $100 more. However for that extra $100 you get a better camera in many departments.Image quality is still excellent as you would expect from a well known camera manufacturer such as canon. The Rebel T1i has a higher ISO range 100-3200 and can also record in high definition video which is a nice feature if you're interested in recording home movies without the need for an extra video camera.
Nikon D3100
Here are a few reasons why you should also consider in buying this camera.
First, the Nikon D3100 is equipped with a 14 Megapixel sensor. For that reason, you will see that the details are finer as compared to other entry-level and midrange DSLRs. Live view and face detection and subject tracking is now possible on D3100. HD movies maybe recorded. It boosts 720p and 1080p as well as autofocus while filming. So, you won't really miss your compact camera as most functions are present on D3100 while having a camera that is more powerful.
D3100 is gaining the attention of many buyers is that it is very user friendly. There is a GUIDE mode that can teach the user on how to use the camera as well as how to optimize the settings. So, it is indeed best for beginners.
Sony Alpha A230
As a replacement to the Alpha A200, the A230 sits in line with the Nikon D60, Olympus E-450, Pentax K-m and Canon EOS 1000D. All share the same resolution of 10Mp but the Sony sits a little slower in the drive mode at 2.5fps. One good thing about tis gadget is that you can link it with other Sony devices like say if you have Bravia, you can easily sync it. The HS-1 Homeshare hub is a 1Tb (terabyte) storage device for everything such as videos and photos. It can then be watched on the television by using your remote control. The interesting thing about this is it doesn't just take Sony products because you can link any brand camera or camcorder to it as well as it accepting multiple memory cards, not just Sony Memorystick.
Sony Alpha A230: Plus points
Nice design
Image stabiliser
Dual slot SD/SDHC & MS
Easier GUI (Graphical User Interface)
Minimalist design to prevent confusion
Olympus E520
The E520 is a very competent DSLR with a high specification that IS believed and its price has dropped away from the MSRP.
The level of customizability is astonishing for the price, both in terms of the function of external buttons and the ability to fine-tune the output of the camera to perfectly suit your subject, shooting style and personal preferences. This degree of customization does make the menus pretty unwieldy, which emphasizes the occasional inconsistency in their operation but that's a small price to pay for the extent of control. A few evenings with the not-terrifically-helpful manual and you'll learn to ignore the quirks and complexities. Thankfully the well-thought-out Super Control Panel limits the number of occasions that you'll have to delve into menus.
The body is well built and offers a lot in the way of external controls but it let down by the disappointing viewfinder. Even with Live view, it's likely that the viewfinder will remain the primary way of interacting with the camera. Unfortunately the viewfinder is the smallest on any current DSLR and its information panel is poorly located, which can detract from what is otherwise an enjoyable camera to use.
Olympus is as good as its rivals - but it will struggle to match them if your needs are more demanding.
Pentax K2000
K2000 is a 10.2 megapixel DSLR using sensor technology borrowed from the company's previous-generation advanced cameras. Packaged as a kit with Pentax's redesigned 18-55mm f/3.5-5.6 DA L lens and AF-200FG external flash, the K2000 – with its AA power and SD memory – is aimed at entry-level shooters looking for compact, easy-to-use, low-priced interchangeable-lens camera. Custom color modes, a multi-point AF system, in-body image stabilization and dust removal, and impressive battery life numbers summarize the main reasons the K2000 might end up on your shopping list.
Small and light
Uses AA batteries
Excellent in-camera processing options
Good high-ISO performance in terms of detail versus noise
Improved user interface
Panasonic Lumix DMC-GF1
The camera many enthusiasts have been waiting for. It packs a DSLR-sized sensor into a relatively compact body, with the added bonuses of interchangeable lenses and HD video. The advantage of using a DSLR-sized sensor is much lower noise, higher dynamic range and a potentially shallower depth-of-field than a typical compact can offer.
pleased to say the Lumix GF1 delivers the goods in most, if not all, respects. First the image quality: the GF1, like the E-P1 before it, delivers much lower noise than a typical compact. he GF1’s HD video looks pretty good with detailed images, control over depth-of-field and the benefit of two encoding formats to choose from. The Motion JPEG mode offers greater compatibility with editing programs, not to mention more responsive scrubbing thanks to its milder and simpler compression, but the 2GB file limit restricts HD clips to around eight minutes. The autofocus is noticeably quicker, and benefits from a broader and denser 23-area system, not to mention superior face detection. So with faster autofocus, a built-in flash, more detailed screen and longer recording times, the Lumix GF1 appears to be winning the battle.
Nikon D90
Those looking for a high-end camera for a good price need to look at the Nikon D90 DSLR camera. This camera has a solid construction and can take wonderful photos with the right lens. It's powerful, but it's also easy to use. The Nikon D90 is a 12.3-megapixel, full-function DSLR. The camera shoots in 720p HD and will certainly create a splash in the DSLR. Previous DSLRs did not record video - probably because the designers figured DSLR users are more interested in photographs than video.
Whether DSLRs will eventually have video recording capabilities as a standard remains to be seen. The Nikon D90 is a super solid, mid-range DSLR which has all you need in a modern photography machine.
